What are the costs?

Even though we are a non-profit organisation we are able to offer a quality service because of the donations and support we receive from both the Catholic Women's League and the South African public. We also work very hard at fundraising and are therefore able to offer fees according to the joint income of couples wanting to adopt.  There is no cost to the birthparents but they are encouraged to use their medical aid facility should it exist. The fees up till June 2003 for adopters in South Africa who are screened and counselled by us are:

MONTHLY INCOME > R 30 000 R 15 000 - R 29 999 < R14 999
Introductory Session R200 R200 R200
Professional Services (1st time adopters) R5 000 R3 000 R1 000
Professional Services (2nd time adopters) R2 000 R1 000 R500
Placement R8 000 R5 000 R2 000

  • The R200 registration fee is payable at the introductory session.
  • The fee for professional services covers the costs of counselling, an enrichment programme, home visit(s), workshops, and all related administrative costs.
  • Payment can be either in a lump sum or by means of monthly instalments starting from the second session.
  • The placement fee is payable after a successful placement. It covers the reports, the placement, court work, a medical contribution, post-adoption counselling and workshops for up to three years after placement.
  • We reserve the right to increase the placement fee on an annual basis to cater for increases in medical and other costs.  This increase will not be more than 15% in any one year.
  • The agency also reserves the right to waive any or all of the above costs. This may be necessary for lower income groups or when special circumstances arise. Such decision will be at the sole discretion of the senior social worker.
